Bargain-loving shoppers take note: Los Angeles has little pockets of paradise for you.

If fashion is your thing, start with Santee Alley. This street market of more than 200 stalls and small shops is where you'll find everything from cheap jeans and shoes to men's suits that range from $50 to $895 (with haggling expected). Santee Street in Downtown LA, west of Santee Alley, is packed with shops selling apparel and costume jewelry at rock-bottom prices. Giorgio Rossi (830 S. Los Angeles St.) sells men's Italian clothing to wholesale and retail customers on a stretch of a street that specializes in men's suits.

If your timing is right, you may be able to get into the 2,000-showroom California Market Center (110 E. Ninth St. in Downtown LA), which sells designer samples at deep discounts and is open to the public just once a month.

Shoppers looking for jewelry should head to the Jewelry District, where they'll find in the St. Vincent Jewelry Center (640-650 S. Hill St.) more than 450 tenants selling every imaginable metal and precious gem. This area also has merchants that sell to the public at wholesale prices. Almost all of these shops are clustered along Hill Street; take your time and browse for the best deals.

Finally, the Toy District is where you'll find wholesalers willing to sell to the public. Head to Mega Toys (905 E. Second St.) where most everything, including the infamous Barbie, is about $10.
