Dive Bars
Los Angeles is all about the glamour and the dreams. That's a fact. But not all dreams are Teletubby-sanitized, and not all glamour is air-brushed. If you prefer your LA a little scuffed, there's a place or two (or a dozen) for you.

The Red Room (1229 4th St., Long Beach), for instance, offers the dive necessities: local regulars; strong, cheap drinks; and a pool table in a room far too small to actually use it. Combined with the punk on the jukebox (and occasional DJs), what's not to like?

Tiny's KO (6377 Hollywood Blvd.) might be a little too shiny and new to qualify as a dive, but its decor (naked chicks), plus its live or jukebox hard rock and punk entertainment gives it enough of a dive atmostphere to qualify. Oh, and its owners -- punk rock royalty who once headlined with Ten Foot Pole, Bad Religion, and Circle Jerks -- put it into a special category.
