Not so long ago the Cahuenga Corridor, a side street off Hollywood
Boulevard from roughly Yucca Street to Sunset Boulevard, was known for
its drug trade, homeless squats, and crime. The twenty-first century
brought a turn-around, and now it's known for trendy retail, record
stores, and vibrant nightlife.
The Spotlight (1601 N. Cahuenga), a venerable gay bar since
1963, offers cheap drinks, rec room decor, shifty clientele, and
usually a gaggle of friendly transfolk.
The Beauty Bar (1638 N. Cahuenga Blvd.) used to be a beauty

crowded with a tattooed and pierced clientele rocking out to the
