LA African Marketplace and Cultural Faire - Los Angeles Hotels .com

Experience the richness of African culture during the annual African Marketplace and Cultural Faire. Spanning the last two weekends in August, and Memorial Day weekend in early September, this three-weekend-long festival celebrates unique African cultures and influences--from Ethiopia and Senegal to Fiji and Jamaica--and explores the roots of musical genres such as the blues, jazz, and gospel.

Soak in the nonstop flow of live African beats, peruse the clothing and crafts from 200 merchants, or take a break at the Literary Village and catch a reading or two from notable African American authors. The festival's Fine Arts Pavilion lures visitors with its beautiful traditional masks and wood carvings, while the practical on-site health faire offers free medical screenings, information, and referrals. Shopping, singing, and taking in new cultures can work up an appetite, which the Ethnic Restaurant Pavilion aims to satiate.

Children enjoy spending the day and making new friends at the Little Africa Youth Village, which offers traditional music classes, craft workshops, and storytelling to all that enter. This festival offers something for everyone, and new delights each weekend to discover.
