

The immense Los Angeles County Museum of Art or LACMA (5905 Wilshire Blvd.; 323-857-6000 has been hailed as one of the best art museums in the nation. Its immense collection of art dates from 6000 BC to the present day, from all corners of the globe.
Lovers of European art mustn't miss the works by Cezanne, Gauguin, and Monet. The museum offers an impressive collection of Islamic art and Japanese art, and it features a Modern and Contemporary Art Building showcasing such famous artists as Pollack, Picasso, and Liechtenstein. The museum also hosts music concerts and movie screenings--often of movies that haven't yet been released to wide distribution. Admission is free after 5 p.m. and on the second Tuesday of the month.
The Petersen Automotive Museum (6060 Wilshire Blvd.) offers a cool, interesting history of the automobile, complete with unique automobiles both quirky and spectacular. Kids will love the interactive "discovery" area where they can experience car mechanics hands-on.
The California Craft and Folk Art Museum (5814 Wilshire Blvd.) houses a rich, varied, and fascinating collection of international folk art and crafts. An amazing collection of Native American masks and folk art from Mexico can be found alongside Venetian glasswork and toys from around the world. Interesting exhibits show how different types of crafts are produced.
The innovative Architecture and Design Museum of Los Angeles (5900 Wilshire Blvd.), more commonly known as the A&D Museum, offers various intriguing exhibits exploring the nature of all kinds of design, including architecture, interior design, fashion, landscape, and product design.
