Museum of Contemporary Art
For art with an edge, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). As the only museum in LA dedicated to modern art, MOCA houses one of the most extensive collections of Western art from 1940 to the present and is one of the best places not only to learn about art and artists from the recent past, but also to explore and learn about what is current and cutting edge.

The museum is split between three LA-area locations: Grand Avenue (50 S. Grand Ave.), the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (152 N. Central Ave.), and the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood (8687 Melrose Ave., Design Plaza G102).

Artists in the permanent collection include Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollack, Susan Rothenberg, Sam Francis, and many more. In the spirit of continuing to bring ultramodern art to the public, the museum hosts installations from up-to-the-minute artists from around the world, such as Japan's Takashi Murakami and his "superflat"-style, pop-art-esque paintings.
