The Getty Center in Los Angeles (1200 Getty Center Dr.), located in the Brentwood - Bel Air - Beverly Hills area, is perched high on a hill overlooking the winding highway, the city, and the hills. The complex itself is spacious and airy, with plenty of outdoor space and beautiful gardens between the exhibition halls, so you can make a day of seeing art and getting some fresh air at the same time.
The Getty Center features European and American art. Not to be missed are the brilliant illuminated Medieval manuscripts, works by Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, and Cezanne, and the outstanding European and American photography collection.
The Getty Villa (7985 Pacific Coast Hwy., in Pacific Palisades), a faux Mediterranean building built by J. Paul Getty himself as the original showcase for his art collection, now is home to the Getty collection of Mediterranean sculpture.
