Six Flags Magic Mountain
Built in the early 1970s, Six Flags Magic Mountain is an expansive amusement park located north of Los Angeles. It boasts a long history of innovation and was one of the first amusement parks with a looping roller coaster. Popular with teenagers and young adults, the park has plenty of gut-wrenching rides, including Deja Vu, Ninja, Viper, the Riddler's Revenge, and Thrill Shot.

One of its most popular rides, aptly named Scream, involves a unique floorless train design and speeds of 65 miles per hour. Due for redesign in 2008, X2 is another ground-breaking roller coaster and the world's first in which the seats can rotate forward or backward 360 degrees.

And kids who can't ride the big rides will still have a great time at Magic Mountain. It has Bugs Bunny World, a children's playground for kids under 48 inches tall, and Hurricane Harbor, a tropical-themed water park right next door.
